He has had a life-long interest in ancient literature and the progression of ideas about God through history. Leno completed a bachelor's degree at Walla Walla University, majoring in music and theology. He received training in marriage and family therapy at Arizona State University, and he completed a masters of religion degree at the H.M.S. Richards Divinity School, La Sierra University in Riverside, California.
