After an extensive education, which included Asbury College, Asbury Theological Seminary, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Temple University School of Theology, he served as pastor to a number of churches in the New Jersey Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Both H.C. Morrison and J.C. McPheeters asked Frank Stanger to lead Asbury Theological Seminary. He finally came as Executive Vice-President in 1959 and then replaced J.C. McPheeters as the third president of Asbury Theological Seminary from 1962 to 1982. During his time at Asbury Theological Seminary, the institution experienced an amazing time of growth in all areas: growth in enrollment, in faculty, and in geographical space and buildings. In addition, he served a Professor of Pastoral Work and Preaching from 1959 until his death in 1986 from cancer. Frank Bateman Stanger wrote several works, but was especially passionate about spiritual formation and healing ministries in the church.
