by Chris Laforet (Author)

Christians today are besieged by false teachings from every quarter. Many are simply not prepared to defend their faith, their lifestyle, or their calling. The voices of temptation, naysayers, and heresy are loud and deafening. How can Christians defend themselves and remain true to their calling in Christ? The answer is found in God's words in Psalm 46:10. He said, "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." (NIV) The emphasis on knowing that He is God is the key. This book takes the Christian on an excursion of understanding the foundational principles of the faith. Early believers relied on memorizing creeds to help them to recall the bedrock upon which their beliefs rested. Today's Christians, even though blessed with the Biblical text and many other tools, still need to get back to understanding the basics in order to be strong in their faith. Throughout these pages, believers can come to understand more about the pivotal concepts of their faith. This should help them in building a stronger confession, a more faithful life, and a resistance to false teachings. This book is designed both for self-study and for small-group/Bible-study group use. It includes study group questions and discussion points.

Author Biography

While a teenager, Chris became a born-again Christian in 1980 in a small Southern Baptist congregation in Caracas, Venezuela. He holds a degree from Campbell University and took some studies at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina. While his career is in software development, he is a dedicated lay teacher and has spent many years teaching adult and youth Bible studies and Sunday School classes. Chris' personal favorite subjects are theology and the Biblical original languages, especially Greek. Chris has been married for the past 28 years to his wonderful wife, Sherry. They have one daughter, Rebekah, who is the apple of their eye. Over the years, they have had the benefit of sitting under some excellent pastoral teaching and currently are members of Burlington Assembly of God in Burlington, North Carolina. It is Chris' conviction that a Christian's growth demands their all (e.g. Matthew 13:44) and thus is one of the subjects that he writes and speaks about often.
